Mathias SPAB course in Flint Masonry repair

Lynn Mathias will be hosting a two-day course on the essentials of flint working techniques and traditional flint wall repair, in the grounds of Hatfield House.

Lynn, one of the few remaining practitioners in this skilled craft, will provide live demonstrations and hands-on sessions, covering assessment, preparation and repair of traditional flint walls. Attending students will be given access to a 17th century garden wall, in the grounds of Hatfield House, to practice skills on real historic masonry, under the expert supervision of one of the country’s leading flint specialists.

Lynn outlined the benefits of the course:

“Whilst flint construction has existed for over 2 millennia, masonry flint knapping is an endangered craft. This course will help students grasp the essential knowledge and skills to keep this vital craft alive for longer.”

The course runs from 18–19 April, with details on how to book your place on the link here.
